De La Salle, a zealous and saintly priest, was deeply touched «by the human and spiritual distress of the children of artisans and the poor» and he devoted his entire life to creating a response to their needs. In order to offer them a suitable education, he contributed to the development of gratuitous schools. He joined with some teachers and at first invited them into his own house; later he formed with them a Christian Community which took the name of “Brothers of the Christian Schools”. He devoted his life to the service of schools and the training of Brothers and teachers.
Today, the disciples of John Baptist De La Salle continue to bear witness to their faith (Signum Fidei). The most effective way of responding to the poverty of the youth of today is by offering high quality education, that provided by Brothers and Lay Educators trained within the Institute.
The history of the Brothers has seen them operating in some 85 countries outside France. At present the Brothers, along with some 77,000 lay colleagues, offer their services to over 900,000 students.Casa La Salle participates in these educational ideals by creating a welcoming space for formation meetings, reflective meetings and some restful community life.
